PeopleSoft Mobile Time Entry

Oracle has recently extended it's PeopleSoft Mobile Applications fleet, Mobile Expenses & Approvals, Mobile Company Directory, Mobile eProcurement, Mobile Inventory, with yet another application: Mobile Time Entry.

As stated on the PeopleSoft Apps Strategy blog, Mobile Time Entry is now generally available on FSCM 9.1 as a single post with Resolution Id 898134 and will also be delivered with bundle 28 that will be available on 15th of November, 2013.

Obtain the patch

As most of you know, the PeopleSoft Update Gateway has been decommissioned for a while now. Instead of this, the PeopleSoft Update Manager has been introduced for applying patches for PeopleSoft 9.2. However Mobile Time Entry is available for FSCM 9.1 and this is where the first hurdle starts. For PeopleSoft 9.1 applications you still have to match and find the resolution id to the MOS bug number. After searching for a couple of hours, I was not able to find the individual post. After asking the question where to find the patch on the Community tab of MOS, I received the answer: Bug Number: 17077093.

Now the second hurdle starts, finding all pre and post requisites patches for this patch. My environment was running on Bundle 23, so I had some research to do. Eventualy I ended up downloading and applying the following patchtes.

Manual patch actions

After applying the patches, there a couple of manual steps remaining before you can start using Mobile Time Entry.

First create a new permissionlist with full access to the iScripts of web library WEBLIB_MBL_TE.

Also provide full access to Component Interface TE_TIME_ENTRY.

Add the permission list to an existing role or a new role.

Start Application Designer and open project PRJ898134. Build this project with Recreate Views option set.

How to start Mobile Entry

When navigating to Employee Self Service > Mobile Applications you will see a new icon for Mobile Time Entry. Clicking on the icon opens a new window with the application.

Like the previous mobile applications, you can mail the url of the application to yourself and start Mobile Time Entry on your mobile device. On a iPad or iPhone you can use the option to add the application to your homepage, after which the url bar will disapair the next time and the application will have a more native feel.

What can you do with Mobile Time Entry?

Just about everything you can do in PeopleSoft Time Reports. Adding, coping, modifying and submitting time reports, using user defaults and favorites defined in PeopleSoft.

What is the future of PeopleSoft Mobile?

In the past we have seen different technologies being used to create mobile solutions for PeopleSoft. iReceipt was a native app for iPhone, Mobile Inventory uses ADF and now iScripts are being used.

At Oracle Open World the future developments for mobile for PeopleSoft where presented on several sessions. Have a look at the following presentations and be amazed of what is coming:

    Hi Hakan,

The app looks amazing! It's look like the app is based on HTML5. How about customizing the look and feel of the app?

  2. Hi Nghia,

The Mobile PeopleSoft Applications are build using PeopleTools technology, using iScripts, Component Interfaces, jQuery Mobile, etc.
And yes indeed, it is based on HTML5.

All the "source code" is avaiblable in the PeopleSoft instance.
If you want to customize it, you can, it's all up to your imagination.

Is there any option for "punch time" (time in - time out) entry or is it limited to hours per day?
