Installing PeopleSoft 9.1 Mobile Inventory: Where to start

In a previous post I wrote about the availability of PeopleSoft 9.1 Mobile Inventory as part of PeopleSoft Financials Supply Chain Management.  The FSCM Mobile Inventory Management application provides tools to integrate mobile devices to the PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management system. Oracle ADF Mobile is used along with the PeopleSoft Integration Broker and PeopleSoft (Component Interface) Web Services.

PeopleSoft CIs are PeopleTools components that enable exposure of a PeopleSoft component for synchronous access from another application and act as a web service in the PeopleTools Integration Broker. The system then publishes web services through the PeopleSoft Integration Broker to pass transaction data between PeopleSoft  applications and additional component (third-party) applications. Mobile pages build with Oracle ADF Mobile access these CI services to retrieve data from PeopleSoft FSCM Inventory and send transactions to add and update data in PeopleSoft FSCM Inventory.

This post will describe all prerequisites and software needed to run Mobile Inventory.

  • PeopleSoft Financials Supply Chain Management 9.1 Application
  • People Tools 8.50.07 or higher
  • JDK 1.6.0_21 or higher
  • Weblogic Server 10.3.4 or higher
  • Oracle Application Developer 11gR1 (ADF) or higher (Oracle Application Developer 11gR2 is not)
To run PeopleSoft 9.1 Mobile Inventory Management, you must be using PeopleSoft Financials/Supply Chain Management 9.1, Bundle 16, PeopleSoft Financials/Supply Chain Management 9.1 Maintenance Pack 8, or PeopleSoft Financials/Supply Chain Management 9.1 Feature Pack 2.

Before you install PeopleSoft Mobile Inventory Management 9.1, you must complete the installation and set up of PeopleSoft Inventory 9.1.

PeopleSoft 9.1 FSCM & Mobile Inventory

FSCM 9.1 can be downloaded via Oracle Software Delivery Cloud

You can see that Mobile Inventory is available as separate download.

If you choose to download and install FSCM Feature Pack 2, do NOT download and install Mobile Inventory. Mobile Inventory is incorporated in FSCM Feature Pack 2 and is even at version 2 whereas the separate download is at version 1. You would be overriding the Mobile Inventory with a lower version whereas the FSCM is at a higher version.

To install and run Weblogic Server you need a JDK. I have used JDK 1.6.0_31. Download here.

Weblogic Server

The Mobile pages are build with ADF Mobile. ADF runs within Weblogic Server. You can download Weblogic Server 10.3.4 here.

Application Development Runtime

For Mobile Inventory you need to extend the Weblogic Server with Application Development Runtime of higher. Download here.

JDeveloper (Optional)

If you want to customize and/or extend Mobile Inventory you need JDeveloper. I used JDeveloper 11.1.14. Download here.

In upcoming posts I will describe the installation steps to get Mobile Inventory up and running. The installation steps are:

  1. Installing Weblogic Server & Application Development Runtime

  2. Applying authentication provider

  3. Setup PeopleSoft Integration Broker & Activating Inventory services

  4. Deploy Mobile Inventory application to Application Developer for Weblogic Server

  5. Test the application

  6. Create customization environment

Do you have any suggestions with regards to gathering UPK content for PeopleSoft implementations? I need to record and develop all of the PeopleSoft training topics, but the functional team is very busy. I'm trying to come up with a template for gathering the content I need.
If you have any storyboarding templates for PeopleSoft that would be awesome!
